During installation the program registers the service, called ‘Remote Files Server’. You can start it from the Service Control Manager.
Note. Your Windows account should have Administrator rights to get access to the Service Control Manager.
This service provides all server functionality of the program. One difference is that the server, being started alone, without the administration module, works in noninteractive mode: it does not support hot changes in configuration and user accounts and it does not inform administrator by text messages. Although text messages to administrator are stored and are displayed next time the administration module is started. SMRKsoft recommends using the service separately from the administration module when you have all necessary user accounts created.
Selecting ‘inform Administrator by e-mail’ option in the program configuration allows receiving users’ messages in time. Alternatively, it is advisable to start the main window (or view user messages online) some times to get these messages, as well as new account requests.
There is one requirement to use the program without administration module. Before you start the service from the Service Control Manager, start it at least once from the main window. The program needs to configure the service at first start. Otherwise, the service finishes working just after start.
