When I try to login to my server the red message comes up in the browser which says it is a certificate problem and I am being fooled or data may be scanned. Please explain.

I don't have a static IP address and I was wondering if there was a way to find out my IP address remotely from another location. I know that I could make a note of it while I was in front of my pc but if I went away and forgot to make a note, would it be possible to find my pc?

The modem test says "failed". Both firewall tests were successful. I have port forwarded and I am sure I made it correctly. What should I do?

When I try to connect my pc with the ip address, I get the login window of my modem. How can I get into my pc?

Why there is no shortcut to administration page from the login screen? Or, was this designed so that "the admins will know where to go" philosophy?

When I try to login to my server the red message comes up in the browser which says it is a certificate problem and I am being fooled or data may be scanned. Please explain.

Certificate is a special data used by https server (like My Remote Files) to identify itself on a client side. Web browser uses this certificate to check whether it should trust to https server. To simplify this task there are so called certificate authorities (like VeriSign) that sign certificates. If web browser gets certificate signed by certificate authority, it accepts it without additional messages. In the other case, it suggests user to decide whether to continue communication with such server or not.
My Remote Files creates certificate itself for every end user. The program can’t sign it because this process is not automatic and it requires annual fees for every user of My Remote Files. But when web browser shows red message each time you connect to pc with My Remote Files (and only in this case), it doesn’t mean that your connection is not secure, or data may be scanned. So we can advise to accept available certificate every time, when browser asks you about.

Starting from 1.2.4 release, My Remote Files can track changes in computer’s IP address and can send notifications by e-mail. While server is active (or after program restarts if 'Switch server ON with starting program' is set) the program checks computer’s IP address, and if it changes, sends special notification to selected email. Also, if necessary, the program restarts server to accept connection on new IP address. To enable and configure this feature, click 'Go to program configuration' and switch to 'General' tab.

In almost cases, the third test (‘Modem test: accessibility from the Internet’) fails if port forwarding is not set or not configured correctly. This case and possible solutions are described on this page.
But this test may fail if a connection uses proxy server. My Remote Files does not use proxy, but somehow it maybe forwarded to it. It leads to wrong detection of computer’s IP address. As a result, URL of login page points to a page on proxy that, of course, is absent. Also, to complete the third test, the program uses proxy IP address (supposing by mistake, that it is your IP). That's why test fails.
One of possible solutions is to find somehow (for example, by contacting your ISP) the real IP address of your computer and use it to connect to your pc (in spite of the URL, suggested by the program). Although test will continue to fail, normal work is possible. But note, if you install 1.2.4 or later versions, don't set 'Inform about changes of computer's IP address (for dynamic IP addresses)' on General page of the program configuration. It could lead to unpredictable results in this case (being used with proxy).

When I try to connect my pc with the ip address, I get the login window of my modem. How can I get into my pc?

This situation usually rises if you use network router to connect to the Internet. URL of login page (that the program displays) works if you try to connect from remote PC. If you want to login to My Remote Files from the local computer or from the local network (in test purposes), you should use your computer’s ip.

For example:
URL of login page https://200.200.200.200
Computer’s IP 192.168.1.2
To connect from a remote PC use https://200.200.200.200
To connect from the same PC use https://192.168.1.2

Why there is no shortcut to administration page from the login screen? Or, was this designed so that "the admins will know where to go" philosophy?

Yes, we'd like not to place the link to the administration page on the login (or any other) window. This is due to many things. At first, it is normally that web interface, that provides ability to manager server, is hidden from its users without administration privileges. For example, look at any web site in the Internet – you will never (generally speaking, in a few cases, maybe) find such a link on a main page. At second, the remote administration option is available to registered users only with so-called unlimited ($60) licenses. In other cases this link will not work. And at third, the remote administration feature is optional. That’s why we’d like not to place the link to the administration page on the login window.
But still, it is possible to get this shortcut on the login screen. Just download this template page. After that unpack it to existing 'serverroot' subfolder (without quotes) of the folder where the program is installed to (by default, 'c:\Program Files\My Remote Files\serverroot'). When you are asked, click yes to replace existing file.

What is the difference between 'start server as a service' and 'start server as a stand-alone application' modes?

Since version 2.2, My Remote Files can start server as a service or as a stand-alone application. From the functional point of view, there is no difference between these modes. The difference is how server interacts with the main window and what rights the program needs to start it.
Service can be started from the program, as well as from the Service Control Manager (without the main window). It can work when no Windows user is logged in. But the program needs administrator rights to start service. Also, there are some problems with service in Windows Vista. Vista blocks some program features such as notifications by text messages and support of hot changes (i.e. service should be restarted each time after changes in configuration or user accounts to make these changes active). Windows 2000, XP and 2003 Server do not have this problem.
Server as stand-alone application does not require administrator rights to start. It works until current Windows user is logged in. This mode is selected by default. The program can avoid in it Vista restrictions, mentioned above.
Note. Server as stand-alone application is run automatically when service can't be started by any means.
